Many people experience foot pain in their heels when they wake up and try to walk. In this article, we describe why this happens and how to treat it. It’s estimated that over 50% of US citizens suffer from foot pain, and this pain is directly related to damage of the plantar fascia (plantar fasclitis).
The most common patients of this pain are people who gain weight suddenly, athletes, pregnant women and people who are walking or standing for a prolonged period, maybe because of their job or their lifestyle.
There are some methods you can use to prevent and treat this condition.
You can achieve a total relief by doing some exercises we are about to show you:
1. Cross your legs, with one over the other. The heel should be pulled upwards, and remain in this position for 15 seconds. Do it 3 times, then switch feet.
2. Fold a towel and put it under the foot arch. The heel should be pulled upwards, then stretch it for 15-30 seconds. Do this 3 times, then switch feet.
3. Find a water bottle or another cylindrical object, then place it under your foot. Roll your foot over it for around 60 seconds, then switch feet.
Also, here are some other methods you can use to treat this condition:
– Warming up – Before you do any physical work or exercising, you should warm up to prevent injury.
– Exercising regularly – Not only should you have some kind of physical activity, you should also keep a normal body weight in order to prevent this condition from happening.
– Having good foot support – Remember to pick good footwear, in order to support your feet well and avoid foot pain. Also, don’t walk barefoot or wear high heels.
– Maintain healthy body weight – We already mentioned this, since having extra pressure on your feet will most likely cause pain, you should try to lose that extra weight you have.
– Rest – If you are constantly walking or standing, remember that your feet need to rest in order to relieve the pain.
